At Maina Hardwoods, we take pride in our 30-year history of producing high-quality interior wood products. Started by Richard (Tex) and Pat Maina in the early 1960s, our company was born from Tex's passion for woodworking and his entrepreneurial spirit. From humble beginnings, we have grown and flourished, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our team.

Our story began when Tex and Pat left their home in Chicago to build a resort in the northern woods of Wisconsin. After fire destroyed the main lodge, Tex used his creative problem-solving skills to rebuild and operate the resort in the summers, while working at the Telemark Ski Hill in the winters. As their third son arrived in the early 1970s, Tex and Pat decided to sell the resort and focus on their woodworking interests. Tex purchased a local sawmill and planer setup, which became the foundation of Maina Hardwoods.

As the business grew, Tex's oldest son, Dave, joined him in the late 1970s to help develop the company's focus on high-quality hardwood tongue and groove paneling and flooring. Several years later, Tex's youngest son, Steve, joined the business after Tex's retirement and is now a partner. Our team has continued to innovate and refine our process, ensuring that every product meets our high standards of quality and durability.

Our Services

At Maina Hardwoods, we offer a wide range of services and products to meet your interior wood needs. Our services include:

• Standard Flat Flooring: We manufacture flooring in the following species: White Birch, White Ash, Northern Red Oak, and occasionally Yellow Birch. Our standard width is 3 1/8" coverage in White Birch and White Ash and 3 1/8", 4", 5",7" coverage in Northern Red Oak.
• Rough Sawn Flooring: A Maina Hardwoods exclusive, our Rough Sawn flooring offers a unique, one-of-a-kind look that is often copied in laminate or imitation wood products.
• Paneling: We stock five species of paneling to meet your needs: White Birch, White Ash, Northern Red Oak, Cherry, and Yellow Birch.
• Custom Projects: We can tailor our services to meet your individual needs, from designing custom paneling and flooring to installing our products.

Our Process

At Maina Hardwoods, we take pride in our start-to-finish process, which ensures an affordable, beautiful, and unique product that is unmatched in quality and durability. Our process begins with our sawmill, where we carefully saw lumber to specific dimensions for our finished products. We then dry the lumber using species-specific schedules to ensure uniform drying and natural color. Our planer building begins the finishing process, where our rough lumber is straight-line ripped and end-matched to produce a product with no waste.

We also offer pre-finishing services, where our products are sanded to be ready for finish application. Our end-matching process cuts out any waste and machines a tongue and groove on the end of each board. We also maintain a plastic-lined box to protect our products during transportation.
